What I Wore

What I Wore… Because I was Helping to Raise Funds

  • When: Sunday November 27th
  • Where: Fundraiser for Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics Center at Dave’s Bar and Grill in Warwick, RI
  • What: Grey striped sweater (Ann Taylor outlet), toothpick jeans (J. Crew outlet), golden yellow scarf (gift from Paris), brown boots (Frye), bangles (Alex and Ani)

How many times do you wear a pair of jeans before putting them in the wash? When you find a style of jeans that fits great, do you stock up? I’ve noticed that I often write about the same 2 brands of jeans over and over. While I will wear a pair 2 or 3 times before washing, let it be known that I’m not wearing the same exact pair over and over again. :P

I have at least 3 pairs of toothpick jeans from the J. Crew outlet and several more pairs of jeans from Madewell. At just under 5’4, it’s difficult to find jeans with a short inseam. I’m too lazy and cheap to get my jeans hemmed. J. Crew’s cropped toothpick jeans work perfectly with flats and they’re fitted enough to tuck into my boots. Madwell’s jeans are affordable and certain styles are available in shorter lengths. Maybe some day I’ll venture into the world of designer jeans and tailoring, but for now I’m ok with repeating my current favorites.

What I Wore

What I Wore… Pop of Color

  • When: Saturday November 26th
  • Where: Festival Fete Holiday Market
  • What: Black striped boatneck shirt, black cardigan, yellow skirt, necklace (all from the J. Crew outlet), black tights (Target), black flats (Tory Burch), handbag (Tila March), typical set of pearl earrings and 2 silver bracelets

My first instinct was to reach for a khaki skirt to complete this outfit. But with a striped shirt and black cardigan, it would’ve been bland and boring. I thought the bright yellow skirt added a fun pop of color to liven up my outfit. Do you like to add splashes of color to give life to your outfits?

What I Wore

What I Wore… Summer Dreaming

  • When: Friday November 25th
  • Where: Dinner at Piccadilly Pub
  • What: White t-shirt (J. Crew outlet), “Nantucket red” zip-up cardigan (Murray’s Toggery Shop), denim leggings (American Eagle outlet), knee socks (Target), boots (Madewell), pendant necklace (Tiffany & Co), pearl earrings (North River Outfitter), one silver bracelet per wrist

Do you attach memories to specific items of clothing? I purchased this cardigan during a vacation on Nantucket this summer. As soon as I put it on, I remembered bike rides around the island, lazy afternoons at Cisco Brewery, blooming hydrangeas, and strolling along cobblestone streets. Oh no, now I’m homesick for summer!

What I Wore

What I Wore… Happy Thanksgiving!

  • When: Thursday November 24th
  • Where: Thanksgiving dinner with my mom’s family
  • What: Gold dress (H&M), navy patterned tights (Anthropologie), plaid shawl (Madewell), tassel necklace (Madewell), bangle bracelets (Alex & Ani), scrunchy boots (very old, from NYC)

What I Wore

What I Wore… Flowers and Stripes

  • When: Monday November 21st
  • Where: Meeting at my wedding venue, lunch date at Otherside, and quick trip to North River Outfitters
  • What: Dip-dyed striped top (Le Minor), toothpick jeans (J. Crew outlet), black boots (Madwell), floral scarf (J. Crew), pearl earrings (North River Outfitters)

I’m often scared to mix patterns I’m always afraid I’ll get it wrong and look like a crazy lady. I decided that by wearing a green and black striped shirt with a pink and green floral scarf, the dark green color in both pieces pull the outfit come together.

Stripes and polka dots? Florals and plaids? Do you like to mix patterns? Let me know some of your styling tips! :)

Winning Chicken Dinner

A little bit of a baby step towards a completely home cooked meal! I’m very glad that my mom was home to help with my chicken dinner.

I purchased lemon pepper chicken from Whole Foods and followed the baking directions on the package. I baked sliced zucchini and squash with olive oil, salt, and pepper and I also made a box of pearl couscous.

My mom helped by creating her signature salad: spinach, goat cheese, cranberries, and walnuts.

The folks at home were pleased with the meal, even though they did give me some grief for buying pre-seasoned chicken rather than doing the work myself. I didn’t argue with them because the lemon pepper chicken was MUCH more expensive than plain chicken pieces and a jar of seasoning.

It was a winning chicken dinner. Mmmm!

It’s Easy Being Green

I still have grand ambitions of cooking dinner for my family. But for dinner #2, it was so easy being green. I simply boiled 2 pouches of Spinach Florentine Raviolis and created a green salad with spinach, green peppers, yellow peppers, and croutons.

I splashed some olive oil on the ravioli and dinner was served. Yum!
