My Background

I grew up in a small town on the MA/RI border and went to high school in RI.  I attended Northeastern University and graduated in 2006 with a BA in English.  During my 5 years at NU, I completed co-ops at Walt Disney World and the Improper Bostonian.  Upon graduation, I worked for Northeastern as a researcher in the Development department.  In the winter of 2007, I began working for Boston College as a researcher in the University Advancement department.  Same job, different name.  I earned an MS in Administrative Studies from Boston College in 2009.

In April 2010, I decided to leave my job at BC and pursue my career passions.  I spent 4 months working as a Membership Advisor at HealthWorks.

Now I’m back on the passion pursuit, searching for a career that I will be truly happy with and freelance writing.

Health and Fitness

I began gymnastics at age 5 and practiced the sport for 11 years.  During my junior year of high school, I quiet gymnastics and joined the Bay State All Stars competitive cheerleading team.  I continued cheering as an undergrad at Northeastern.  In 2002, I was part of the team that won the NCA College National Championships in Division I co-ed.  After college, I cheered for East Elite’s Co-ed Open Team for the 2007-2008 season.  Then I entered grad school and cheered for Boston College during the 2008 football season.

I have always been into working out and eating right.  I’ve taken courses about eating disorders and nutrition & aging, as well as a course about sports and competitive performance.

*I’m currently studying to earn my AFPA certification to be a Nutrition and Wellness Consultant.*

Other Interests

Besides my interest in healthy living (food and exercise), I love fashion.  Shopping on Boston’s Newbury Street is one of my favorite things to do.  I love traveling!  I’m hoping to add more locations to the list as time and $ permit.  While I can be a wimp about trying new foods, I will never turn down a glass of wine or a bite of dessert.  I love Disney World.  I’m practically an expert in any and all things Disney-related.

Plus I love cupcakes!!!

We seem to have a lot in common! I took did gymnastics for over 10 years, and in high school I joined my competitive cheerleading squad. I always wanted to try basketball or soccer, but I always felt like the other girls were so much better.

So, I stuck with what I knew best. Tumbling. I feel like thats all I did on my comp squad! haha

Hi! I just found your website and I love it already!

I just wanted to introduce myself. Turns out we are from the same area – I also grew up on the MA/RI border, but on the RI side. My friends from college and NYC always assume that I’m from Boston, and I always have to explain that I live walking distance from the RI border. Do you have an awesome accent, too?

    Hi!

I stumbled across your blog a week or so ago and just thought I’d leave a comment to let you know how much I enjoy reading it. I am starting my journey from sloth – healthy and I want to run (hence the name of my blog!) so it is good to read about what you do to prepare for runs and about your past runs (I am guilty of reading your whole blog to catch up!)
So thanks for the great posts & I’m looking forward to reading more :)

    can’t wait to read more!

Hi Melissa! I’m your friend Molly’s new roommate. She turned me on to your blog and I love it. Mine is a work in progress I haven’t had much time for since starting school, but I’d still love to meet you and chat sometime soon! Are you attending Boston Blogtoberfest or anything fun like that?

Hi Melissa, love your blog! Such a cute name. I go to school in Boston and I agree, Newbury is the place to be. Have you been to Sweet? I went for the first time with my friend last week, and their red velvet cupcakes are top notch.
