The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children presented Spotlight on Boston, a charity fashion show to benefit MSPCC’s military families program, on Thursday June 16th. I was so excited to attend this event and watch my first fashion show. A huge thank you to MJ from Shoeline.com for giving a pair of tickets to me!
I’ve gotta start small if I ever want to attend New York Fashion Week.
The event began at 7 pm but the fashion show was not set to start until 8:30. That left plenty of time for drinks, mingling, and cupcakes galore.
I tried one of the Oreo cupcakes and it was heaven. Yum, yum, yum.
I chitchatted with Alana and her boyfriend and snacked from the Candy Bar with Natalie, my date for the night.
There was a silent auction with lots of prizes that tempted me. I really wanted to bid on 2 pairs of shoes from Shoeline.com but I held back from signing my name on any of the lists.
Before I knew it, the cocktail hour was over and it was time to take our seats for the Fashion Show.
The wonderful evening was slightly flawed when Natalie and I ran into a seating issue: We gave our tickets to the usher and she seated us in the front row. Not more than 2 minutes later, a woman from the MSPCC staff stormed over and demanded to know why we were sitting there, declaring that those seats were for people who paid for very expensive tickets. I quickly apologized and tried to explain that we had been told to sit there, but that we were more than willing to move to the correct seats. As Natalie and I collected our bags and moved to the 3rd row, the woman was overheard complaining about the girls who tried to sneak into the front row.
Determined not to let the woman’s snarky comments spoil the evening, Natalie and I settled into our new seats and enjoyed the show.
It was difficult to capture photos of the clothes being modeled, but my vantage point was good enough that I fell in love with several nearly all of the outfits and declared that I needed to go on a shopping spree.
What do you think of this up-do? I absolutely loved this model’s hair and each time she took to the runway, I oohed and ahhed and tried to snap a photo.
The Fashion Show featured designs from the Velvet Fly, Turtle, Habit, Twilight, Tintyped and Committed, Archangel, Sara Campbell, Sweet Society, and Bo-Line. These are all locally based shops and designers. The show was created by Amy McLaughlin.
Fantastic fashion show, delicious treats, amazing clothes, and a great fundraiser for the MSPCC!

thats super annoying about the woman who jumped to conclusions and assumed you snuck into the front row! what a brat. I love to see names like Velvet Fly and Twilight up there, some great North End boutiques!
