Chili Cup 2011

Ned Devine’s hosted the Chili Cup 2011 on Thursday February 17th.  I was fortunate enough to receive tickets to the event.  Sample 9 different chili recipes and vote for my favorite?!?!  Of course! :)

Thank you Hannah, marketing manager for the Briar Group, for providing my tickets to the event.

Natalie came along because we also covered the event on our site the Boston Day Book.

Corona and Jose Cuervo sponsored the event.  Each attendee received 2 drink tickets that could be used for beers or 3 specialty mixed drinks.

I didn’t waste any time getting down to business sampling chili.  Ned Devine’s served corn bread with their recipe.  Mmm!

While eating spicy chili, I sipped on a Cuervo Silver Paloma to quench my thirst.  It was made with Jose Cuervo Silver, grapefruit juice, and a splash of soda.  I don’t drink tequila very often so the first sip was intense.  But the drink was actually very light and tasty.  I enjoyed it!

9 different chilies to sample, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pick a favorite.

Jared loves chili so he was really psyched to join me at this event.  He tried a full bowl of chili from all 9 tables.  I think he regretted his decision later that night. :P

The Chili Cup 2011 was fun and festive.  Live music, lots of people mixing and mingling, so many different types of chili served with various toppings.

The guys took their chili judging very seriously and took notes so they could make the best vote when they finished tasting.

So. Much. Chili.  I voted for Game On.  I loved their chili.  It had a nice thick, chunky texture and was perfectly spiced.  Good flavor without being too hot and spicy.

I didn’t make it to the end of the night when the votes were tallied.  But I later learned that the Baseball Tavern earned the coveted Chili Cup.  Congratulations Baseball Tavern!  :)

Sounds like a fun event. I love the topping bar. I wonder if after tasting so many my palate would be able to tell the difference though. I’d probably have to be dorky and be super diligent and first just try a taste of each and then go back to finish the bowls.
