Balance Disk

Longtime blog readers may remember that back in the fall I often whined about my back/butt/glute pain.  In December, I went to 6 appointments with the chiropractor and began to feel a lot better.  Lately, even with my half marathon training and gym workouts, I haven’t blogged about any aches and pains.

My lifesaver?

My balance disk!

I spend several hours each day sitting on a hard wooden chair while doing computer work at my dining table.  I know sit on my balance disk while I work.  The balance disk keeps my core engaged.  My abs are working and my spine stays in line.  I can’t believe what a difference changing my seating arrangement has made.

I sit on both the smooth and grip sides of the balance disk.  The smooth side acts as a nice cushion and the grip side offers a self-massage.

As an added bonus, I can use my balance disk for it’s intended use.  I can stand on one foot and balance to increase my ankle strength.  I can also use it while lifting weights to further increase balance and strengthen my core while isolating a particular muscle group.

I am still in awe that a simple $20 purchase of a balance disk really changed my life.  I’m pain-free not matter how many hours I sit and type. :)

Good solution. Who suggested that you purchase one of those.

Wow, awesome idea. I never thought about a balance disk but I’ve been having hip/back/leg pain for a little over a year now. I’ve been to the orthopedist, physical therapist, you name it – and I know it probably has a lot to do with my office job/sitting in a chair all day. I’m going to try this out!
