Matt’s Graduation, the Final Chapter

the Cupcake Lab

Wanna talk about an amazing coincidence?!?!

My brother’s apartment is right in front of a coffee shop called The Cupcake Lab!

the Cupcake Lab

While the rest of the family was helping Matt move out, I snuck inside the Cupcake Lab for a snack.

the Cupcake Lab

I ordered a mini Coconut Cupcake and Jared sampled a mini vanilla cupcake.  Mmm!  I hadn’t eaten since breakfast (aside from a few bites of chocolate chip cookie during the grad ceremony) so this was a much needed snack.

By the time we were done walking up and down Saratoga’s main street, Broadway, the packing was finished and it was time to head to dinner.

Hibachi Dinner

Matt chose a Hibachi restaurant for his graduation celebration!

Hibachi Dinner

It was so much for for the 10 of us to sit around the grill.  Especially since my grandfather insisted he only ate American food and my grandmother thought the list of rolls meant sandwiches.  She would’ve been quite surprised if she ordered and sushi appeared!

Old Dogs Can Learn New Tricks

Luckily my grandfather was SO hungry, he didn’t put up a big fight.  I was proud that he tried a lot of new foods.  He even attempted to eat his salad with chopsticks!  And discovered a love for fried rice when he saw it was cooked with eggs and lots of butter.

Soup

We had soup for an appetizer.  Clear broth and very tasty.

Up in Flames

Then it was time to fire up the Hibachi grill!

Fried Rice

So much fried rice!  My favorite part of the meal.

Cooking the vegetables

Fresh vegetables being prepped with lots of ginger and soy sauce.

Cooking the meat and seafood

Then it was time to cook the steak and seafood.

Hibachi Chicken Dinner

I ate fried rice, chicken, and lots of vegetables.  Though quite salty from all of the soy sauce, it was a fresh and delicious dinner.  And a fun meal to share with my family.  My brother chose a great restaurant.

Our chef squirted “Sake” into our mouths and tossed broccoli at us.  Even my grandmother managed to catch a piece of broccoli in her mouth!  It was a lively dining experience filled with lots of laughter.  I loved watching my grandparents try new foods and really get into the fun.  Definitely a great way to conclude Matt’s graduation celebration!

Dessert

I had a few bites of ice cream, but didn’t finish my small bowl.  With a 3 hour drive ahead of us, I didn’t want to eat anything that my stomach couldn’t handle.

It took 3 hours to drive from Saratoga, NY back to Boston.  We got home around 9 pm and I attempted to watch the Red Sox and Celtics games, but crashed at 11 pm.  This morning, I was glad to learn that both teams won. :)

Looks like so much fun! I can’t believe how close he lives to that cupcake place- that would be dangerous for me haha. Congrats to your brother!
