Googling the Garmin

001

Someone ate the last container of yogurt…  :( So running late as usual, my only option was the grab a packet of instant oatmeal and scoot out the door.  When mealtime arrived, of course I added a spoonful of peanut butter to beef it up a little.

Today’s outfit was another last minute decision.  I had planned on wearing boots and leggings, but when I remembered  I had a 10 am meeting, I decided to look slightly more business casual.  Emphasis on slightly!  I had fun playing with color, wearing a dark green long sleeve t-shirt under my navy argyle vest and plum colored ballet flats.

And I don’t know why, but as soon as I finished getting dressed, I was in the mood to wear pearls.  A simple strand adds a classic, preppy detail to most outfits.

I’ve been doing some thinking.

When I received my tax return, I made a plan and divided up the $.  Some went to pay bills, some went into my Savings account.  But I made sure to leave money set aside for fun shopping.  After looking at the Lululemon website and making a shopping list, I realized that probably wasn’t the wisest way to spend my cash.  Haha, huge revelation, I know!

With all of the running I plan on doing in 2010, I think the best idea is to purchase a Garmin Forerunner.  There are so many versions available and my google searching has been a little overwhelming.  I’m not concerned with monitoring my heart rate.  I want a smaller sized Forerunner that will quickly locate satellites and then track my speed and distance.

The 405 is so sleek and sexy, but out of my price range.

*I’d love to read your comments/suggestions about running gadgets!*

Another thought!  Ok, so I’ll be doing a decent amount of running in the near future.  I definitely need to use some of that tax return $ to buy a myo-release ball.  Running can be a literal pain in my ass!

    Very cute outfit. :)

I don’t own a Garmin but my boyfriend Brian does. I’m not sure what version it is, but its huge! I think its the same one that Kath has. I always think about trying it out but then put it on and realize that its way too big for my wrist to be comfortable. I’d make sure you go out and try them on, if possible!

Sorry, I don’t have any info for you. However, I’m interested in what people have to say. I’m starting a running program this year and love gadgets!

I am looking to purchase a Garmin 405 right now too…did you know they’re doing a $50 rebate until May if you buy one? Still pricey… but it helps! I used my Dad’s 305 last week while on vacation, and it’s way too big/heavy for my wrists, so I’m holding out for the 405 for sure!

If you find a deal online, please share the details!

I would love to set aside some money for fun spending on something like that. I don’t know much about Garmin’s so I’m no help there. But I do think its a great idea. All of ours is being set aside for baby #2. Little ones’ deliveries are $$$$$!

I have the 305 and its definitely not small or sleek, but I love, love, love it. It does look big, but it’s the only one I’ve ever used, so I guess I’m just used to it. I can’t believe the difference its made for our training runs. Our whole group relies on it for the stats after each run. Good luck with the purchase….I’ve got my fun tax $ going towards a new camera…thinking of the Canon PowerShot, but still not sure!

If you order one, make sure you talk to them about the chest strap. The one they sent me was a size medium and it was huge on me. I had to jump through hoops and lie to get them to send me a small. Then that was too big and now I’m waiting for the extra small. Customer service dept. not so great.

Everytime I see someone wearing a pearl necklace, I laugh because I have a dirty mind!

Thanks for the suggestions… Going across the street to City Sports for some in-store browsing.

Melissa: Haha, I thought the same thing as I typed the post. I’m the type of person who laughs whenever I read the word “crabs.”

I bought the Garmin 305 and I absolutely love it! The size does not bother me, and I have the smallest wrists in the world (I don’t even own watches because they are never made small enough to fit). My husband found a really good deal on my Garmin so I decided if I stick with constant running for a year I may look into buying whatever new version they have out at the time, until then I love my 305!

I run with the Polar F6 HRM. I love it! I haven’t ever run with a Garmin but the main complaint I hear from my friends who do have it is that it isn’t accurate. I don’t know…let me know what you decide.

Okay…so I seriously wish we lived in the same city because I would TOTALLY pay you to be my personal shopper! You are too cute…always!!

I love your outfit! The pearls are so classy. I just ordered a Garmin for my belated birthday present from my parents. From all the reviews I’ve heard, it’s definitely the brand to go for!

I got the 305 for Christmas this year. I have only used it a couple of times so far, but I love it! I have pretty small wrists, and while it does look a little silly on me, I don’t feel that it weighs me down and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable.

If you are a numbers geek (like me), you’ll love looking at the stats and data that you can upload to your computer after each run. It makes your hard work pay off because you can literally see the data improve as you get faster/run farther/etc.

For me though, the best part is being able to see your pace. It really pushes me and I think it has already made me faster.

Hmm good point – I haven’t figured out what to spend my tax return on yet!

I have the 305 and love it! It is big and bulky but big and bulky = easy to read while running.

I also have trouble with the chest strap but I used a few safety pins and keep it tucked under my sports bra – works for me.

The 405 looks really nice though…
