Blades of Glory

001

This pizza from the Upper Crust had to make a repeat appearance.  So fresh and delicious!

004

Corgis really like pizza.  I felt bad telling him that it’s not for dogs.

002

I ate one too many pieces, but I knew I needed to have enough energy to make it through an hour of public skating at Fenway Park.

009

Our ice time wasn’t until 9:15  pm, but we arrived around 8:40 so we could take our time getting in and taking pictures.

012

Fenway Park!

013

More views inside a chilly Fenway Park.

Frozen Fenway!!!

It was COLD out and I was really bundled up:

  • Layer 1:  Under Armour leggings and a turtle neck
  • Layer 2:  Sweat pants and a fleece zip-up
  • Layer 3:  Hooded sweatershirt
  • Layer 4:  Winter jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves

On the ice!

When we first started out, I stayed close to the boards cuz that was the only way I could stop.  But as the night went on, I got more and more confident and ventured closer to center ice.

026

In the penalty box!

I can’t believe we stayed on the ice for the entire hour of public skating.  I thought I would get bored after 20 minutes, but I loved it.  My parents were skating too…so my mom and I did laps together and chitchatted while we were gliding around the ice.

Skating got my blood flowing.  By the time we had to get off the ice, I was actually warm and tempted to suggest walking home.  I’m glad we took the T cuz we didn’t get back to the apartment until 11 pm and by the time I relaxed and got ready for bed, it was close to midnight!

027

I slept great with the aid of my Night Guard so it wasn’t too painful when my alarm went off.  Just grabbed a bowl of Special K before heading out the door to go to work.

I love ice skating! My brother has played hockey since he was about 4, and I secretly always wanted to be a figure skater. :)

That sounds like SO much fun! I had no idea you could ice skate in Fenway, very cool.

Jessica: I always wanted to be a figure skater too! I loved the costumes and when the skaters would curtsy at the end of their routines.

Katharine: The NHL Winter Classic was held at Fenway on New Years Day. So since the rink was built for that, the city decided to open it up for Boston residents to go public skating. It was kinda tough to get a ticket. Jared waited in line for 90 minutes!

Very cool. I went to the BU/BC hockey game there on Friday and was wondering what they were doing with the ice the rest of the time. That pizza looks yummy, although I have to admit I’m more of a Figs girl when it comes to pizza. 1/2 Red Sox & 1/2 Portabella is my weakness.

Looks like a great time. I’m glad you got to be a part of history!

I have to disagree about Upper Crust/Phantom Gourmet Pizza. I think it’s similar to Papa Gino’s. Mangia and Ernesto’s are the best!! ;)

To answer your question about Core Fusion, no you can’t watch it instantly, you have to add it to your que.

Kelly and Melissa: Figs, Mangia, and Ernesto’s! Ok, 3 new pizza places to try. Then I’ll decide if I need to change my opinion of the Upper Crust. :)

What a fun night! I would have added hand and toe warmers to my layers because I get ridiculously cold! I’m glad you got to enjoy it with so many special people!

My husband loves The Upper Crust. I bet they don’t have a gluten free pizza :(

Looks like a fantastic evening! I have not been ice skating in years, but I would love to go. It’s really a good workout, unless you’re like me and you fall every five seconds :)

    Have a wonderful evening!
