Best Trends of 2009

According to Style Bakery, these are the top trends that took over in 2009!  And the good news is that these trends seem like they’ll be in throughout 2010!

1. The Boyfriend Blazer – “Seen on and off the red carpet, the boyfriend blazer was a Hollywood staple this year. Adding a casual touch to cocktail dresses, and a sophistication to t-shirts and jeans, this is a must-have piece for most starlets.”

2. Color – “Stars were no shrinking violets this year as we saw a range of candy colored hues on the red carpet. Cobalt was especially popular and is one color that never goes out of style.”

3. Over -the-Knee Boots – “We’ve seen the knee high boot, and we’ve seen the bootie, but not since the sixties has there been such an interest in over-the-knee boots. Worn with short dresses as well over skinny jeans, these boots got some serious mileage from today’s hottest celebs.”

4. Formal Shorts – “We love a great dress on the red carpet, but we found it refreshing to see a spin on red carpet dressing with stars wearing the formal short. The shorts, usually made out of silk or satin, have a nice sheen and made the gams on the ladies who wore them look a mile long.”

Hmm, I never jumped on the Over-the-Knee Boots bandwagon, and I thought formal shorts were in a few years ago.  I wore a pair in 2007.

That being said, I agree with and fully support trends #1 and #2!  I am hoping to wear a boyfriend blazer over a skirt and tank top on New Year’s Eve.  It will add a touch of casual cool to my dressy outfit.  I love that there’s a way to dress warmly without sacrificing style!

I love fun colors, especially adding small bits of color to a monochromatic outfit.  My potential New Year’s Eve outfit also falls into this category because I plan on dressing mainly in black (tank top, tights, shoes, handbag), but adding a touch of color by wearing a blue skirt.

Blazers and cardigans are my go to items. Good to know I was in fashion for 2009. I hear 2010 is all about florals…that’s what Rachel Zoe told me.

The over the knee boots crack me up. I don’t think most people can pull them off. I am 5’2″…I would look ridiculous! But what do I know?

And I’m proud to say I don’t own ANY of those trends! Proud may not be the best word….but a trend is a trend and I’m sick of spending money on trends. That’s why I buy what’s ALWAYS in fashion…aka, not much….I’m boring! Color is one thing I need to work on, as my mom always say I need more color in my wardrobe. IN reality, I just need more money so I can buy new clothes!
