Heavy Metal and Winter Whites

Style Bakery’s recipe for 11/10/2009 is something that made me say Woohoo and Oooo.

Mixing Silver and Gold

“The easiest way to wear this look is to choose jewelry and accessories that mix the metals for you…and easily pair with other silver or gold items in your wardrobe. For the more adventurous, try mixing an accessory with a piece of clothing in mixed metals, like [a] gold dress and silver shoe…” -Style Bakery

*I’ve always been weird about wearing silver and gold at the same time.  I have 2 silver rings that I wear every day, and when I’ve chosen to wear a gold necklace or earrings, I’ve debated leaving the rings at home.  I love the latest pieces of jewelry that offer a blend of the 2 metals.  Sometimes too much gold can look heavy and dated, but blended with silver, the look becomes more fun and modern.  Plus I’m all about the metallic clothing trend.  I love tops and sweaters with a little sparkle and shine!

Wearing White AFTER Labor Day

“The key to wearing white in the winter is to choose fabrics that are cold weather appropriate, then try mixing your whites with black, brown, red and other wintry colors.” -Style Bakery

*White scares me.  Anything that can be splashed or spilled, I’ll do it!  I love a classy black/white combo, but I think it would be much more holiday appropriate to wear white paired with cranberry red.  Think snow and Santa.  I guess I’ll be brave and start wearing more winter white as long as I have some sort of portable stain remover in my purse!

When I’m happy and healthy (and done cooking and exercising) I love to think about clothes!

*Do you have any fun outfit ideas for winter?  With holiday parties on the horizon, I’d love lots of input!*

I’m not one for mixing jewelry either and prefer silver. I’ve seen a few pieces that combine the two and think they’re beautiful. I wouldn’t mix and match on my own though.

I like white, but always wear it under a blazer or sweater. I never fail to spill on myself if I wear it alone. I don’t know how people can wear white pants. I’d be afraid of the bottoms dragging on the ground or sitting on something.

I usually add subtle sparkle to my holiday outfits. Maybe a glittery tank under a cardigan or blazer (sequins are popular this season!) or a scarf with some sparkly strands sewn throughout. Or sometimes I throw caution to the wind and wear a bright red sweater with a giant sequin Santa Claus on it. Just kidding with that last one :)

I always hated gold but now I like mixing gold and silver. I love velvet pants in the winter for work and parties. I know some of you may think, “she did not just say velvet pants.” Oh yes I did. Find some that have a nice cut (i.e. no mum-jean like velvets) and you will be amazed at how cool they are. Wear them with a sparkly tank top, a simple t-shirt with tons of necklaces or broaches….so many possibilities:)

Amanda: Ooohhh, brooches! I just got an e-mail from Club Monaco with some blinged out brooches. I don’t have velvet pants but I do have a really simple black velvet dress!

Melissa: I agree…subtle sparkle. It’s ok to be the life of the party but you don’t need to look like a disco ball. Well, maybe on New Year’s Eve! ;)
